ABOUT BRIAN OF B.M.T. WELLNESS:
After a meandering journey working in photography, followed by several years doing manual labor, I experienced two traumatic injuries which led me to physical therapy. Here I realized I could put my mechanical mind and hardworking hands to healthier use—instead of installing new plumbing systems, I could help people feel better and heal. This inspired me to enroll at the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy in the fall of 2010.
I eagerly learned all that I could and continue to expand my knowledge as much as possible. I have been trained in multiple massage techniques, and use my own unique combination of Myofascial Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy and energywork tailored to the needs of my clients.
I am also trained in several energy modalities including CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release through the Upledger Institute, Polarity Therapy, Reiki, Quantum Touch and Shamanic practices as well as specially trained to work with TMJD issues of clenching, bruxism, grinding, or anyone with a history of dental issues. Any and all of these modalities can be used in a single session, to optimize my clients experience. My approach specifically focuses on relieving chronic tension and pain, mechanically, energetically and emotionally to help the body heal. Acknowledging that working where the pain is, is not always the solution. I co-create sessions with my clients by first honouring and listening to them throughout the session. In addition to that, I offer education about what I am noticing, offering self empowerment tools via dialogue and encouraging my clients to listen to the messages their body is telling them both during and after the session. This is an effort to help them further understand their bodies and experiences, supporting them and guiding them toward a higher quality of life.
In addition to the above, I am involved in the ManKind Project, which is a nonprofit training and educational organization with three decades of proven success hosting life-changing experiential personal development programs for men. This organization is integral to my life and has grown and changed me to be the person I am now. I also have training with NonViolent Communication (NVC). Pairing this with my SomatoEmotional Release and Imagery and Dialogue work from the Upledger Institute, affords me the ability to offer deeper emotional healing with my clients.
I am a 2011 graduate of the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy (AAIMT). I am certified in Myofascial Therapy and Neuromuscular Therapy through AAIMT. I am a member of The Association of Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP), and licensed to practice massage in the State of Michigan. I also have been a member of the Mankind Project since October 2014.
